William "Bill" Houston Gill, Jr.

William "Bill" Houston Gill, Jr., 75, a respected heavy equipment operator in surface mining, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the Ballad Hospice House in Bristol, TN. Born on January 29, 1951, in Wyoming County, West Virginia, Bill lived a life marked by dedication, skill, and a deep connection to both his work and his loved ones.

Bill’s professional life was centered around his expertise in operating heavy equipment within the surface mining industry, where he contributed significantly through his knowledge and steady commitment. Alongside his career, Bill found joy in the art of wood carving, a pastime that allowed him to express creativity and detail beyond his professional endeavors. This hobby was a cherished outlet that reflected his patient and thoughtful nature.

He is survived by his wife, Freda Gill, kids,  Billy Gill (who is married to Leslie), James Gill, and Kelly Gill. his grandkids, Joey Gill (married to Sara), Jaron Coomer (married to Candra), Cameron Gill, and Connor Gill;  great-grandkids, Hudson Coomer and Hadley Coomer.  Along with his immediate family, Bill is remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews, as well as his brothers and sisters, who cherish the memories shared with him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Houston Gill, Sr., and Mary Dee (Wood) Gill, whose memory he carried in his heart throughout his life.

Per Bill's wishes, there will not be any formal services.
