Wenonoah Cornett Shell

Wenonoah Cornett Shell, 86, of Gate City, VA, entered into rest on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was born in Wise County, VA on May 10, 1939, a daughter of the late James B. Cornett and Cornie (Chapman) Cornett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Shell; daughter, Deborah Rene (Shell) Roberts; son, Charles Edward “Eddie” Shell.

She was a charter member of Gateway Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be dearly missed by all who loved and cherished her.

Surviving are her sons, James H. Shell and wife Tammie; Timothy A. Shell and wife Donna; grandchildren, Laura Compton, Suzanne Shell, Kelly Shell and Brandon Shell; great-grandchildren, Abigail Jo Huffman and Gracie Compton; sister, Phyllis Cornett Mitchell; brother, Jack B. Cornett.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm Monday, October 27, 2025 at Gateway Baptist Church, 155 Shady Elm Lane, Weber City, VA. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:00 pm with Pastor Rick Begley officiating. Wenonoah will be laid to rest following the service with her husband in Holston View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Gateway Baptist Church, 155 Shady Elm Lane, Weber City, VA 24290 in her memory.
