Teresa Michelle Baker Phillips, born on September 25, 1954, in Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Teresa's life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and community spirit, and her passing leaves a profound sense of loss among all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Lynn View High School, Teresa devoted much of her life to nurturing and supporting children. She worked in day care at the First Broad Street United Methodist Church, where her gentle spirit and caring nature touched countless young lives. Teresa was also a devoted member of Walnut Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, which remained a cornerstone of her faith and fellowship throughout her life.
Teresa’s family and friends were the center of her world. She shared a loving marriage with her husband for over 55 years, Raymond Phillips, who stood beside her through every joy and challenge. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Matt Phillips and Ty Phillips, who, along with his wife Joy, carry forward the legacy of their mother’s warmth and strength.
Her grandchildren—Hannah Phillips, Ethan Phillips, Storm Phillips and his wife Samantha, Tamaryn Phillips, brought immense joy to Teresa’s later years. She was also blessed to witness the early years of her great-grandchildren, Lahna and Jude, who added new light to her family’s hearts. Teresa's love extended beyond her immediate family to her sisters, Mary Sumner and Wanda Johnson and her husband Billy Jack, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her deeply.
Among those who stood by her side and enriched her life were special friends Linda and Eric Bowlin, Wanda and Wallace Haggar, Wendy and Jeff Salyers, Carl and Ellen Yeary, Louella and Billie, and Rick and Rita Page. These cherished relationships were a testament to Teresa’s generous spirit and the genuine connections she nurtured.
Teresa was preceded in death by her dear parents, Morton Patton Baker and Bertha Helen (Quillen) Baker, and her sisters Phyllis Freeman and Linda Odle. Their memories live on in the hearts of all who loved Teresa and in the stories that bind the family together.
A service to honor Teresa’s memory will be held on May 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Oak Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 800 Truxton Drive, Kingsport, TN. with Elder Scott Tipton and Pastor Danny Sykes officiating.
