Preston Bruce Addington

Bruce Addington, 93, of Nickelsville, VA passed on June 11, 2026.

He was born September 28, 1932 to the late Hugh M. Addington and Mattie E. Smith Addington and lived a long and happy life with his beloved wife for 64 years, Janelle Donelson Addington (passed on April 10, 2014).

Bruce was also preceded in death by his son Douglas, daughter-in-law Nina, sisters Lyndell (1913-1922), Louella (Gorman) Hilton, Virginia (Hoyt Bond) and (G.W. Addington); brothers Larlyn (Edith), Delmar (Leta), Gladstone (Margaret), infants Elva Lucille and R.G. He was the last grandson of his late paternal grandparents Joseph J. and Emm Alley Addington and late maternal grandparents Thomas M. and Eliza McConnel Smith.

Bruce was a graduate of Midway High School, class of 1949 and Milo Bennett Linotype School and worked in printing for 30 years. After retirement from printing, he enjoyed farming and raising beef cattle. His mentoring and love of the God’s land is a legacy that is continued by future generations.

Bruce was the oldest member of Copper Creek (Addington Frame) Primitive Baptist Church and served as a deacon and trustee for over fifty years. He was the church treasure for over 40 years. He and his wife had visitation and helped with the sick as long as they were physically able.

Bruce is survived by sons Danny W., Timothy D. and wife Susan; grandchildren Justin, Daniel and wife Peggy, Joseph, Michael and wife Nicole, Zachary and wife Cassaria, Christopher, Dee Dee and husband Bobby Hill; great grandchildren Dalton, Brandi, Jaelyn, Brayden, Olivia and Nellie. Sister in-law Margaret Donelson; Brother-in-law Eugene Donelson; several nieces, nephews, many cousins, friends and his companion dog Pepper

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Copper Creek (Addington Frame) Primitive Baptist Church, 2238 Addington Frame Rd., Nickelsville, VA 24271 visitation beginning at 2PM, funeral service at 3PM with Elder Harmon Willis and Evangelist Rex McMurray. Burial procession to Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA following the service.

Pallbearers will be Justin Addington, Daniel Addington, Michael Addington, Zachary Addington, Dalton Addington & Brayden Addington – Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Addington, Allen Addington, CM Bond, Chris Addington and church family of Copper Creek (Addington Frame).

Copper Creek (Addington Frame) Primitive Baptist Church services begin at 11AM and you are cordially invited. A dinner in remembrance of our oldest member and deacon will be held following the church service and prior to visitation.
