II Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I Have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give to me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Pastor David Macklyn Newland, of Yuma, VA, went to be with the Lord at his residence on October 31, 2026, at the age of 67. He was born on September 30, 1959, in Kingsport, TN.
David will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, brother, and friend whose life reflected devotion to both family and faith. He retired from Holliston Mills after 43 years of service, a remarkable milestone that spoke to his steady work ethic and commitment. Alongside his working years, he faithfully pastored several churches in the community. His final pastorate was at Rockview Baptist Church, and he was also a member of Catron's Chapel Church, where his faith and fellowship were an important part of his life.
At the heart of David’s life was the love he shared with his family. He leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Tina Michelle Newland, and his son, Sam Newland. He is also survived by his sisters, Diann Seaver, Sandra Collins and her husband, David, and Karen Jennings and her husband, Tim. His memory will be cherished as well by his niece Amy Collins; his nephew Michael Collins and his wife, Tiffany; his niece Morgan Barlow and her husband, Cody; and his nephew Nick Jennings and his wife, Kaysey. He is further survived by his great-nieces, Spencer, Ezzy, and Cooper Jennings, who will carry forward his memory in the generations to come. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and his love for his family will remain a lasting gift.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon McLyn Newland; his mother, Lena Mae Newland; and his brother-in-law, Gary Seaver. Their memories remained part of his life, and now he rests with those who went before him.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Catron's Chapel Church, 9387 Yuma Rd, Kermit Community of Gate City, VA. Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with his son, Pastor Sam Newland, Pastor Larry Tolley, and Pastor Tommy Meade officiating. Music will be provided by Catron's Chapel Choir.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 10:15 am at the church to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Collins, Nick Jennings, Dustin Hill, Steve Crabtree, Jake Crabtree and Josh France.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Jennings, David Collins, Cody Barlow and Tony Fansler.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Families with Children at St. Jude Fund, 5549 Robinette Valley Rd, Duffield, VA 24244 or Catron's Chapel Church, 9387 Yuma Rd, Gate City, VA 24251.
Pastor David Macklyn Newland leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and warmly remembered by those blessed to share in his life.
