Nell Sturgill Rhoton Barrett

Nell Sturgill Rhoton Barrett passed away July 15, 2026 at Holston Valley Hospital.

Born January 18, 1944 in Clinchport, VA. She was a borned-again Christian and attended Good Shepherd Church until her health failed. She retired from Hills Dept Store and Home Depot. 

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ross Rhoton, parents, Charlie and and Hazel Berry Sturgill; her son, Randall Scott Rhoton; brothers, Leonard Sturgill, Lee Sturgill, Bill Sturgill, and Jack Sturgill; sisters, Lena Kate Sturgill and Mary Lou Lane.

She is survived by her husband, James Barrett; daughter, Debbie (Paul) Gilliam; son, Steve Rhoton; sisters, Linda (Don) Hammonds, and Patsy Rhoton; brothers, Robert (Faye) Sturgill, Wayne Sturgill and Larry Sturgill; sister-in-law, Benita Sturgill and Norma Sturgill; step-daughters, Ursula Kay Spalding and Jessica Tina (Josh) Price; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Holston View Cemetery with Harlan McDavid officiating. Music will be provided by Eric McMurray. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 10:50 am at the cemetery for the graveside service.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
