Mary Kathleen McCoy

Mary Kathleen McCoy, 72, of Gate City, VA, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, in Kingsport, TN. She was born on January 24, 1954, in Kingsport, TN and throughout her life she was known for the love she gave so freely to those around her.

Mary was a truck driver and a homemaker, and in every part of her life she carried a strength and devotion that touched her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Dale McCoy, and by her son, Darrell McCoy. She also leaves behind her brother, Rueben Hensley and his wife, Patricia; her sisters, Shirley Montgomery and her husband, Fred, Martha Simmons and her husband, Bobby, Phyllis Poole and her husband, Ronald, and Wanda Hensley. Mary’s love continues through her grandchildren, Darrell Glen McCoy, Rebecca Ann McCoy, Janie Danielle McCoy, and her special grandson, Gabe Hensley. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Bailey Ray McCoy and Annland McCoy. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Each of them carries forward the memory of her care, her presence, and the lasting place she held in their lives.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, James and Lorraine Hensley; by her daughter, Becky McCoy; and by her niece, Bobbie Kilgore. Their memories remained part of her life and story, and they are remembered with her now.

A graveside service for Mary Kathleen McCoy will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery, 5395 East Carters Valley Road, Gate City, VA. with Brother Rex McMurray and Rev. Ronnie Horne officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 12:50 pm at the cemetery for the graveside service. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mary Kathleen McCoy will be remembered with affection and gratitude for the steady love she gave to her family and for the many lives made better by her presence. Her memory will remain a comfort to those who loved her.
