Mark Patton Burke

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

Mark Burke, age 66, of the Big Moccasin Community, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by those he loved most. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and nephew whose life was defined by humility and love for his family.

Mark was born to Herman K. Burke and Phyllis Ann Ferguson, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents: Linzy and Gladys Ferguson, Sam Burke, and Frances Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Stephen Burke and Jenny Burke Staples (John); his brothers-in-law, Earl Kennedy and Larry Kennedy; and by his mother- and father-in-law, Herbert and Lola Kennedy.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Burke; his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Andrew Medukas; his son, Adam Burke; and his cherished grandchildren, Emilyn Medukas and Drew Medukas, who were the light of his life.

He is also survived by his siblings, David Burke (Yolanda) and Karen Burke; his sister-in-law, Louise Burke; his sisters-in-law, Ann Rector (Dan) and Connie Lane; his brother-in-law, Junior Kennedy (Debbie); his special niece, Lindsey Burke Rodriguez; his aunt, June Osborne; and his best friends, Otis and Opie, all of whom will miss him dearly.

It was Mark’s desire to be cremated and for his remains to be buried beside his grandparents, Linzy and Gladys Ferguson.

A graveside service will be held at Holston View Cemetery with his niece Lindsey giving the eulogy and Rev. Rick Begley officiating and providing special music. The date and time will be announced when scheduled.

The family will receive friends at the home and at the daughter’s residence.
