Johnny Dale Kern, 61, of Gate City, VA, entered into his eternal resting place on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Johnny was born in Dayton, OH on November 2, 1963, a son of the late John Henry Kern and Joanne (Walker) Kern. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Mashburn and his step-mother, Alice Kern. He was retired from truck driving. Johnny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be greatly missed by all who loved and cherished him.

Surviving are his loving wife of over 40 years, Vickie Boggs Kern; daughters, Kala Dickerson and husband Jeremy, Jordyn Kern; sons, Jonathon Kern, Randall Kern and wife Cheyenne and Malachi Kern; grandchildren, Kameron Dickerson, Lilly Gardner, Henry Gardner and Alayna Stout; sister, Virginia “Ginny” Eckman and husband Harold; brothers, Rodney Kern and Phillip Kern; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Kala Dickerson.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 24, 2025 at Holston View Cemetery with Pastor Larry Tolley officiating. Music will be provided by Vernon and Reva Boggs. Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:50 am at the cemetery for the graveside service.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Kern, Phillip Kern, Roger Boggs, Paul Boggs, Harold Eckman and Joey Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kameron Dickerson and Henry Gardner.
