John Sam “Larry” Mullins, 77, of Hiltons, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, just two days before his 78th birthday. He was born on April 22, 1948.
Larry was a loving husband, dad, papaw, brother, and friend. He cared deeply for his family. He retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 41 years, and he took a lot of pride in his work.
He really enjoyed being outdoors and the simple things in life. Every year, he looked forward to planting his garden, working outside, or just sitting under a shade tree on a warm day.
Family meant everything to Larry. He was a proud papaw and loved his grandchildren more than anything. He cherished the time he spent with them and made sure they knew the importance of working hard, getting a good education, and being kind to others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Mullins; his sisters, Norma Jean McMurray and Elna McMurray; and his brother, T.R. Mullins.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Mullins; his daughters, Amy Sallee and husband Steve, April Mullins and Michael Seagle; his son, Chad Mullins and Brooke Godsey, his grandchildren, Caleb Mullins, Abby Sallee Ten Eyck and husband Andrew, Ava Seagle, Grace Kennedy and husband Graham, and Isabel Sallee; his sister, Nancy Harris; along with many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.
Larry was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can say. His family and friends will carry his love and memory with them forever.
The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 5:30 pm Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Darthula Baptist Church, 1741 Lunsford Mill Rd, Hiltons, VA. Services will be held at 5:30 pm with Pastor Roger Vineyard officiating.
Burial will follow the service in the Mullins Cemetery located across from the family home.
Pallbearers will be Randy Finch, John Presley, Andrew Ten Eyck, Graham Kennedy, Seth Marshall, Justin Snider, Glen Sanders and Brian Baker.
Glen Hartsock will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
