Gerald Wayne Compton, born on January 5, 1959, in Kingsport, TN, passed away peacefully at his home on February 18, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and commitment, having served as a valued employee of the Pennline Company.
Gerald was a proud graduate of Gate City High School and obtained an Associate Degree in Electronics from Mountain Empire Community College, which laid the foundation for a fruitful career and a life dedicated to service. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his profession, traits that inspired those around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Begley Compton, who stood by his side through the joys and challenges of life. Gerald is also remembered fondly by his sisters, Sharon Harper and her husband Randy, and Anita Ketron and her husband Jerry. His brother, Randy Compton, and wife Phyllis, along with his step-son Paige Hughes and wife Emily, cherish his memory. Moreover, his step-grandchildren, Lucas Todd Hughes, Molly Jane Hughes, and Addison Paige Hughes, were a source of great joy and pride for him.
Gerald's family extends to several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom will miss his warm presence and loving spirit.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Wilson Compton, and his mother, Charmie Alice (Bellamy) Compton. The family also mourns the loss of his niece, Laura Beth Harper, whose memory will forever be held dear.
A visitation will be held on February 21, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, 3397 Manville Rd, Gate City, VA 24251. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 1:00 PM with Pastor Rick Begley officiating. Interment will follow at Smith Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Harper, Mason Harper, Isaiah Hill, Ethan Ghent, Scott Odle, Paige Hughes and Jim Summers.
Honorary pallbearers will be his co-workers at Pennline.
Gerald Wayne Compton's impact on his family, friends, and community will not be forgotten, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
