Freida Carol McConnell

Freida Carol McConnell, 78, of Weber City, VA, passed away at home on Sunday, September 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on February 17, 1948, in Clinchport, Virginia.

Carol will be remembered as a woman of deep care and quiet strength. She retired as a nurse, a calling that reflected her compassion and her lifelong concern for others. She was also a dedicated member of Gateway Baptist Church. In her community, she was loved by many, and she loved her community in return, always willing to help where she could and to give back in meaningful ways.

Her family was at the heart of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Hensley, and Joy’s husband, Roger; by her granddaughter, Brandi Elam, and Brandi’s husband, Mike; by her grandson, Sean Hensley, and Sean’s wife, Alysha; and by her grandson, Jonas Moenckert, and Jonas’s wife, Stephanie Posselt. She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren, Avery Elam, Abby Hensley, Mira Moenckert, and Liam Moenckert. Carol is also survived by Cindy Wilholt and Rhonda Elam, special family members whose place in her life was dearly valued. 4 loved cats: Sam, Felix, Alfred, and Loralie. Those who knew Carol through her family knew the warmth she brought to every gathering and the love she gave so freely, and that love will continue to be felt in the generations she leaves behind.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul McConnell; her son, Stephen Mark Dean; infant son, Richard Williams, and her parents, Emory Williams and Mae Ruth Williams.

The family will receive friends  on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Gateway Baptist Church, Weber City, VA .  A Celebration of Life will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Deboard officiating.

Her favorite color was purple, please wear joyful colors and not black.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter in her name.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ibrahim Nakhoul and the entire staff at the Ballad Health Cancer Center for the loving care they gave her during her courageous journey. And also special thanks to Caris Hospice Healthcare for their care.

Freida Carol McConnell leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, kindness, and devotion to both family and community. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
