Dennis C. Templeton

Dennis C. Templeton of Gate City, VA, departed this world on Saturday, July 11, 2026 and has entered into the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ forevermore.

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Dennis said "I am proud of many things in life, but nothing beats being a child of God!" John 6:69 - And we believe and are sure that thou art Christ, the Son of the living God.

Dennis was born in the Copper Creek Community of Scott County, Virginia on October 9th, 1944 to William F. and Lentha Helen Templeton. He married Carol Jane Shelton and went to work at The Mead Corp./Mead Paper June 1963, and retired in 1999 after 36 years of service.

He was a member of The Gateway Baptist Church in Weber City, VA. Dennis served in the choir, was an ordained Deacon for many years and served as an usher and wherever else needed.

Dennis C. also served on the Scott County Board of Education. He coached baseball and football at Gate City, VA Little League Senior League, and baseball and football in Kingsport, Tn along with softball at the Mead.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Jane (Shelton) Templeton; his parents; baby son, William Wilson Templeton; two brothers, James C. Templeton and William C. Templeton.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Dennis Michael Templeton, David Mark Templeton and wife Kim, James Matthew "Jimmy" Templeton and wife Michelle; grandsons, Cody S. Templeton and fiancé Samantha Dishner, Zachary D. Templeton and fiancé Elisabeth Davidson, Chase E. Templeton and girlfriend Taylor Hill, Blake Matthew Templeton; granddaughters, McKenzie Grace Templeton Ketron and husband Ryan, Alexis Nichole Templeton Akers and husband Anthony; great-grandsons, Silas Ledger Templeton, Thomas Akers and John Akers; sisters, Josephine Vernell Orton, Shirley Irene Toof, and Emma Inez Davis.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Holston View Cemetery with Pastor Justin Smith officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at 12:50 pm at the cemetery for the graveside service.

Pallbearers will Cody Templeton, Zachary Templeton, Chase Templeton, David Templeton, James (Jimmy) Templeton, Anthony Templeton, Richard Templeton and Tom Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Templeton, Blake Templeton, Jack Hamilton, Warner Brickey, Eddie Henry, David Stokes, Randy Lane, and Allen Starnes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gateway Baptist Church, 155 Shady Elm Ln, Weber City, VA 24290 or to the Scott County Animal Shelter, 186 Single Tree Rd, Gate City, VA 24251.
