David Lynn Burke, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away suddenly at his home on April 17, 2026. Born on May 1, 1952, in Kingsport, Tennessee, David’s life was a testament to adventure, and an unwavering love for family and the outdoors.
He was a graduate of Sullivan West High School, and retired from Eastman Chemical Company, after dedicating 36 years of service. David’s magnetic personality endeared him to many. He never met a stranger and had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel at ease and welcome. Known for his big sense of humor, David delighted in jokes and laughter, ensuring there was never a dull moment, and he found so much joy in life’s simplest pleasures. David’s family was the cornerstone of his happiness.
For 35 years, he shared his life with his loving wife & best friend, Jane Williams Burke. Together, they built a life rich in love and many adventures. David was a proud father to his daughters, Aimee Burke Rodenhaver, her husband Tom and Shelley Hunley, her husband Blake (his fishing buddy), grandchildren—Ashley Burke, Nicolas Grossberger, Bella “Rosie” Hunley, and Irelynd “IE” Hunley—and great-grandson Brendyn Burke, all brought him immeasurable joy. Brother, Charlie Burke. Several nieces, nephews and so many very special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Mack Burke and Gladys Irene (Archer) Burke, and his brother Gary Burke. Their memory remained a guiding influence throughout his life. The memories shared by David, his loving wife, all of those who knew him are filled with happiness, adventure and many treasured moments, whether it was their travels to Florida and Canada, or time spent fishing the lakes, hunting the woods or his years spent as the President/Vice-president of the Eastman Hunting Club and his devoted membership to the Outdoorsman Club, are all reflections of his love for life. Rest in peace, “Honey”, “Dad”, “Papaw”, “Buck”, knowing & loving you made every moment brighter and every heart fuller. We will forever miss you!
A Celebration to Honor David’s Life will be held, Saturday May 16, 2026 from 4pm-8pm at: The Outdoorsman Club 4535 Hwy 11 W Blountville, TN 37617
