Billy Lee Flanary, 81, of Gate City, VA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, at his home surrounded by his family.
Bill was born on December 28, 1944. Bill is the son of the late Lottie and Troy (Bud) Flanary. He was raised in Clinchport and graduated from Rye Cove High School in 1963. Bill was also a member of the Clinchport Masonic Lodge.
Bill worked at Eastman for 35 years and retired in 1999. After retirement, Bill worked at Daugherty Brothers Chevrolet and drove a bus for Scott County Public Schools. Bill definitely had the "gift of gab" and selling cars and hauling children gave him the opportunity to use his gift.
Bill loved to help others. He could build or repair anything and helped many family, friends, neighbors and even strangers throughout his life.
Bill was married to the love of his life, Betty Musick Flanary, on Christmas Eve of 1964. They were married for 52 years until her passing in 2016. Bill and Betty lovingly raised their two children, Rhonda (Stuart) Williams and Travis (Whitney) Flanary. Bill had 7 grandchildren who were the joys of his life. Lauren, Jacob and Audrey Williams, Clara Beth and Abby Flanary, and Landon and Aiden Parker.
