Bertha Gaye Tackett, age 82, of Fort Blackmore, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on October 13, 1943, Bertha was the daughter of Rhudell (Johnson) Spears and Edwin M. Spears, Sr. and grew up in McRoberts, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Fred Howard Spears and Edwin “Boe” M. Spears, Jr.; and many loved ones who welcomed her into eternal rest.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Carl Rex Tackett, with whom she built a life centered on faith, family, and unconditional love.

She also leaves behind her beloved daughters, Christal Regina (Tackett) Marino and husband Tony Marino, and Carla Rhudell (Tackett) Osborne.

Bertha was a proud and loving grandmother to Darrell Cole Osborne and wife Kaitlin, and Devynn Rae Osborne. She was also blessed to be a great-grandmother to Finlee Ann Osborne, Cyrus Smith Osborne, Blakely Kohl Osborne, and Brodie Rex Jarrett, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life.

She is also survived by her siblings Jimmy Spears and wife Nevida, William Spears and wife Linda, and Deborah Elizabeth Spears. Along with two half siblings, Shiela Spears and Carrie Spears. Also numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.

Bertha lived a life defined by hard work, determination, and service to others. She worked for many years as a managing cosmetologist and salon owner before becoming a successful real estate agent. Throughout her life, she and her husband owned and operated several businesses, always dedicating themselves to serving their community with integrity and care.

A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Bertha’s faith was the foundation of her life. She believed in loving others through kindness, generosity, and quiet acts of service. Her home was a place where everyone was welcomed, and no one ever left without feeling like family.

She found joy in sewing, photography, music, cooking, and treasure hunting through thrift stores. Above all else, she treasured the time she spent with her family and friends. Whether gathered around a dinner table, sharing stories, or celebrating life’s milestones, Bertha’s warmth, hospitality, and generous spirit made every moment special.

Those who knew Bertha will remember her not only for her unwavering work ethic but also for her compassionate heart, welcoming smile, and the love she poured into everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, generosity, and unconditional love that will continue to live on through the family she cherished so deeply.
